    In a Lesson for Dying, the defensive attorney called Jefferson a hog to show that he made stupid decisions. He compared him to a hog to show that he wasn't smart nor mature enough to plan a murder. Jefferson wasn't smart enough to go through with a murder. The defense attorney wanted the jury to feel like they couldn't convict him of a murder that he wasn't smart enough to plan or go through with. The reason the defense attorney said he was hog to make the jury feel like they couldn't convict him because he isn't capable for it. It back fired because the jury felt that a hog isn't worthy of living. 
    Miss Emma, Jefferson, and Tante Lou didn't like the fact that Jefferson was called a hog because Miss Emma didn't raise Jefferson as a hog. Miss Emma took well care of Jefferson. Jefferson is not a hog. He is a human being just like the rest of us. Reguardless if Jefferson made stupid decisions, he shouldn't be called names especially if he didn't commit the crime. Jefferson asked for corn because hogs eat corn. Miss Emma wouldn't bring him corn because Jefferson is not a hog. Jefferson is a man.
